Benedum:
Outpatient Mental Health Services

The Benedum Geriatric Center provides acute outpatient care through the Geriatric Outpatient Acute Partial Program, located at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC). The program provides outpatients with a very high level of mental health services -- a level similar to that provided to hospital inpatients. Through the program, a geriatric psychiatrist provides coordinated care on a daily basis.

The program is designed to meet the needs of older adults who are experiencing depression, emotional or thought disturbance, mild memory problems, anxiety, or other mental health disorders. The program is especially helpful for those experiencing a significant change in functioning related to emotional well-being, those experiencing problems that may be severe enough to require an inpatient hospital stay, and those who would benefit from supportive group programming.

Older adults are eligible for the program if they are able to live in the community with some assistance from family or other support resources, such as those provided in a personal care home.

For directions to WPIC, visit the Directions to WPIC page of this Web site.
