Gastroenterology Research Gastroenterology is an active specialty with a strong focus on medical education and research. The goal is to improve care and develop better treatment modalities for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. The Division of Gastroenterology Research has instituted several protocols to advance the knowledge and awareness of such diseases as Crohn's Disease and gastrointestinal bleeding. The two protocols currently involved with Crohn's Disease are titled "Is There Any Correlation Between Stress and Crohn's Disease?" and "Efficacy of Long Term Ciprofloxacin in Active Crohn's Disease." The aim of the gastrointestinal bleeding study is to determine the possibility of an alternative treatment for aspirin/nonsteroidal induced GI bleeding, and possible reduction in surgery. The title of this protocol is "Effect of DDAVP on Gastrointestinal Bleeding in Patients With Aspirin and NSAID Induced Platelet Dysfunction."
