Oncology
Prevention, detection, treatment, and rehabilitation are the cornerstones
of UPMC Shadyside's cancer program. The Mary Hillman Jennings Radiation Oncology Center
provides radiation oncology and tumor treatment, and the Women's Imaging Center offers
diagnostics and treatment related to breast cancer.
Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant Program
This program provides treatment for certain types of cancer,
such as lymphoma, breast cancer, and acute myelogenous leukemia. Patients have their bone
marrow cells collected and receive high-dosage chemotherapy, followed by the reinfusion of
their marrow.
Breast Care Consultative Service
This multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary service evaluates and provides diagnostic and
therapeutic options for women with possible or diagnosed breast cancer. During a visit,
patients may see a medical oncologist, surgeon, plastic surgeon, radiation oncologist,
radiologist, and nurse. Recommendations for treatment are forwarded to the primary care
physician.
Mary Hillman Jennings Radiation Oncology
Center
Here, a team of medical professionals provides patients with an individualized approach to
radiation therapy to help slow the reproduction of cancer cells.
Multidisciplinary Pain Program
This comprehensive program evaluates and provides services for patients with acute or
chronic pain problems, and includes consultation with one or more of the following:
physicians, anesthesiologists, psychologists, physiatrists, occupational and physical
therapists, and pharmacists.
Women's Imaging Center
This convenient central location offers patients a comfortable private setting in which
they can receive state-of-the-art breast imaging services from experts specially trained
in mammography and other types of breast care.
