Dietetic Internship: Mission and Goals
Created in 1926, the UPMC Presbyterian
Shadyside Dietetic Internship program has a long-standing commitment
to training competent entry-level professionals and continues to evolve
today. The program encompasses the newest technological advances in
medical nutrition therapy and food service systems. The UPMC Presbyterian
Shadyside Dietetic Internship is a generalist program focused on developing
the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for future proficiency
in dietetics practice. The internship provides practical experience
in clinical, community, and management applications, providing students
with a comprehensive background to meet expanding professional expectations.
The Dietetic Internship program is an integral part of the Food and
Nutrition Department, UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside. Its mission and values
are consistent with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and
UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside.
Mission
The mission of the UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside Dietetic Internship is
to build on the tradition of training competent, entry-level, generalist
dietetic practitioners to support the employment needs of western Pennsylvania.
We provide a high-quality, cost-effective dietetic education program
which utilizes innovative learning experiences and outcomes. Learning
and professional development occur in a diverse and dynamic teaching
and research environment.

Program Goals and Outcome Measures
UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside Dietetic Internship program goals
and outcomes are evaluated annually in accordance with the Commission
on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) requirements for program
assessment.
