UPMC Shadyside

Dietetic Internship
Deciding if You Should Apply

Choosing a Dietetic Internship Program is a major decision in your plan for your professional career. To help you decide if UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside is right for you, you may schedule a tour of the facility and ask yourself the following questions:

Are you interested in a generalist program?

Have you completed the American Dietetic Association (ADA) minimum academic requirements?

Do you have a grade point average of a minimum of 3.0 in dietetics and professional courses?

Are you willing to complete an employment application, criminal background check, and physical examination including drug test?

Have you reviewed the estimated expenses for this program?

If you are an international student, do you have a valid visa?

Are you interested in a generalist program?
UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside's Dietetic Internship Program is a generalist program. We provide a broad range of experiences in all aspects of dietetic practice.

Have you completed the American Dietetic Association (ADA) minimum academic requirements?
Appointed interns are required to submit the following for final admission to the program:

  1. A signed, completed Verification Statement, which documents the successful completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics

  2. A final, original transcript, which documents that a minimum of a baccalaureate degree has been conferred and the date of conferral

Applicants who completed an approved didactic program three or more years prior to application, as evidenced by their verification statement, should request a copy of our Recency of Education Policy. This policy outlines the criteria required to demonstrate updated skills and knowledge. Applicants who do not meet the policy requirements will not be considered.

Are you willing to complete an employment application, criminal background check, and physical examination including drug test? While not required for application, final admission to the program is dependent upon the results of the employment application, criminal background check, physical examination and drug test. The physical examination and drug test are scheduled at UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside prior to program initiation. Disabilities that are unrelated to the ability to perform required work would not preclude acceptability as an applicant.

If you are an international student, do you have a valid visa?
International students must offer proof of a valid visa as a part of the application process. The student visa must be in effect for the full term of the internship program.
