The UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside Dietetic Internship program is fully accredited by the U.S. Department of Education, Post-Secondary Education by the Commission on Dietetic Association of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).

Because of this accreditation, most applicants have been able to secure loans to help offset the expenses of the internship program. Many interns also have been awarded scholarships.

The following information is provided to assist you in meeting the financial expenses of the internship.

Scholarships

  1. Scholarship funds are made available through the American Dietetic Association Foundation. The time to apply is the year before the scholarship is applicable!

The Dietetic Internship Scholarship is available to students who have applied to an accredited internship and who are participating in the computer matching process. General qualifications include:

    • ADA membership

    • demonstrating or showing promise of being a valuable, contributing member of the profession

    • being a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

    Applications may be requested from:

The application deadline is generally in February and awards are made in June. Each year, the dates change. Refer to the scholarship application for information on deadline and award timing.

  2. Check with your college advisor for information regarding scholarships made available through state and local dietetic associations. Generally, there is less competition for these generous awards.

Again, the time to inquire and apply is now, not after being accepted. Good Luck!
