Residents of Canterbury Place have unique access to the services of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, an academic medical center dedicated to quality patient care, refinement of medical knowledge, and medical and patient education. UPMC offers programs specifically designed for older adults.

Among the foremost providers of these services is UPMC Senior Care-Benedum Geriatric Center. The center provides, on an outpatient basis, comprehensive geriatric assessment, medical and psychiatric evaluation, and treatment for older adults. Services include ongoing primary care and specialty care for patients as well as health care education, counseling, and psychotherapy for patients and families. Through Benedum Geriatric Center, Canterbury Place residents receive the professional services of board-certified geriatricians.

Other programs and services are available through Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC), a specialty hospital within UPMC. WPIC offers inpatient geriatric care as well as outpatient programs through the Intervention Research Center for the Study of Late-Life Mood Disorders and the Alzheimers Disease Research Center.

For those residents who need additional assistance, private-duty nurses or aides can be provided through UPMC's in-house services. These personnel are specifically trained to work with the elderly.
