Paying for Long-term Care

Medicare, Medicare HMOs (like UPMC for Life ) , and some co-insurances will pay the costs for residents who are admitted to our skilled nursing unit directly from the hospital for a certain period of time, depending upon the care needs. After this time, if residents qualify, services may be covered under Medical Assistance or long-term care insurance coverage. Residents who do not qualify for Medical Assistance or do not have long-term care insurance coverage are responsible for payment after this time.

Medicare, Medicare HMOs, and co-insurances do not cover the cost of assisted living. Some people have a certain type of insurance policy for long-term care. We accept long-term care insurance for our assisted living facility. Otherwise, assisted living at Canterbury Place is self-pay.

More information about paying for long-term care and retirement housing can be found on the University of Pittsburgh Institute on Aging’s website.
