In a large community of people with diverse needs, like Canterbury Place, there is always a need for caring volunteers. We can provide opportunities for volunteers with many different interests. Here are a few of the opportunities available:
activities aide - escorts residents to and from planned activities and assists staff in making the event as enjoyable as possible
outings assistant - assists with outings to the ballet, symphony, theatre and local restaurants
physical therapy assistant - escorts residents to and from physical therapy appointments and walks with residents who need assistance with mobility
friendly visitor - visits, on a regular basis, one resident or a group of residents
mealtime dining room aide - assists dietary staff by serving coffee, opening small condiment packages, and escorting residents to and from the dining rooms; hands-on assistance for those residents who cannot feed themselves is a great need
manicurist - cuts and polishes the residents fingernails
beauty salon assistant - escorts residents to and from the Beauty Salon and helps the stylist with laundry
administrative mailing assistant - helps prepare bulk mailings to go to the post office by putting labels on envelopes, stuffing envelopes, and packaging them
gift shop clerk - works in the Canterbury Place Gift Shop, which caters to the needs of the residents; the shop sells gift, snack, toiletry, and holiday items
New opportunities are created as a need is identified or talent is found. Volunteers provide a vital service to Canterbury Place, particularly one-to-one service to each and every resident. The volunteer experience will prove to be a rewarding one, both for the volunteer and the resident.
