UPMC Pain Medicine Program
Provides an interdisciplinary team approach to the evaluation and treatment of the
entire range of pain, disability, and rehabilitation problems. Offers an internationally
known treatment program for migraine and other types of headaches. Stresses the
interaction of biological, psychological, and social factors. Conducts research regarding
various pain syndromes. Sites at the Pain Evaluation and Treatment Institute -- Baum
Boulevard, Pittsburgh -- and at UPMC St. Margaret, Aspinwall, Pa.Older Adult Pain Management Program
Optimizes the quality of life of older adults who experience persistent pain. Seeks
to achieve this goal by reducing pain, improving functional status, and enhancing physical
and mental well-being. Stresses an interdisciplinary approach through the cooperation of a
geriatrician-rheumatologist, physical and occupational therapists, psychologist, and

UPMC Spine Specialty Center
Offers multidisciplinary treatment for patients with cervical and back pain and
various types of musculoskeletal disabilities. Stresses immediate nonsurgical
intervention. The center is in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.Pediatric Pain Management Program at Western Psychiatric
Institute and Clinic (WPIC)
Helps children and young people who
suffer from chronic or recurrent pain. Staff assess each case and design individualized
treatment. Treatment, used in conjunction with standard medical intervention, teaches pain
management techniques, including biofeedback. The program may reduce the need for
medication. WPIC is in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh.
UPMC Passavant Pain Management Center
Treats all types of pain, using an interdisciplinary approach. Provides medical
interventions as well as physical therapy, biofeedback, cognitive therapy, diet
counseling, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. In the North Hills in the
Pittsburgh area. |
