UPMC MedCall

Image-Enhanced Consultation

At UPMC MedCall, image-enhanced consultation is defined as a telephone consult supported by images sent electronically, through teleradiology workstations. Such workstations are available at almost all the hospitals in western Pennsylvania, and the software needed to view, send, and receive images is available for free. You can arrange to have the software sent to you by accessing the eMed Technologies Web site. The software is capable of sending all types of images: CT scans, MRIs, vascular imaging studies, and more.

UPMC physicians have access to images throughout UPMC hospitals. With the right equipment, physicians can review images anywhere -- in their offices, at home, or while traveling.

The use of images can help specialists deliver a consult and provide information that may affect initial treatment and the decision to transfer a patient. Sending images electronically before a transfer occurs ensures that the images are available when the patient arrives.
