UPMC Shadyside Family Health Center We realize that emergencies sometimes occur when the office is not open. For urgent problems, a physician is always on call, including nights, weekends, and holidays. To speak with the doctor, call the answering service at: 412-456-7528 The answering service will take your number, and the doctor will call you back, usually within 20 minutes. Please keep your telephone line clear while you wait for the doctor to call you back. Most medical problems allow you time to call us for advice, but sometimes life-threatening problems require you to call 911 and go directly to UPMC Shadyside’s emergency room. If you are a member of an HMO, call for approval as soon as you can to avoid later billing problems. When you arrive in the emergency room, tell the staff you are a Family Health Center patient.
