UPMC Shadyside Family Health Center
If you need services that we do not have at the Family Health Center, your family doctor will approve a referral to a specialist who participates in your insurance plan. After you have scheduled the visit with the specialist, you must call the referral line at 412-623-1184. Our office will then fax the approval for the referral to the specialist, usually within five days. Fees and
billing
If you do not have insurance, we will provide care in the Family Health Center regardless of your ability to pay. If payment is a problem, we can help you apply for free care through the UPMC Shadyside Community Outreach program. Except for unusual circumstances, we accept co-payments and payments for those services that we know will not be covered by your insurance at the time of service. You will receive a bill in the mail from the Shadyside Faculty Billing Service for any unpaid charges and any balance for services only partially covered by your insurance. If you have questions about the bill or have difficulty in making payments, please call 412-623-2561. You may also receive a bill from UPMC Shadyside for non-physician services you receive. For questions about these charges, call the hospital business office at 412-623-2029.
